Movement: a starting point that suits you

Start with a step you can sustain.

What kinds of movement?

Regular activities such as walking, strength exercises and balance activities complement each other. Your choices should suit your current strength, joint symptoms and health.

Start small

Link an activity you enjoy to a particular time in your day. Keep your first goal short and achievable. When starting a new programme, you can ask a qualified professional for guidance on technique and suitability.

Listen to your body

Do not try to push through pain. If you have osteoporosis, have had surgery or have another health condition, suitable movement should be determined according to your individual health. Images on this site are not an exercise prescription.

TAKE A MOMENT TO REFLECT

See it from your own perspective.

  • What kind of movement do I enjoy?
  • Where in my day could I fit a short, achievable activity?
